Missions
Al Baanna and his wife Betty, have served the Lord for over 25 years with
Emmanuel
Ministries International. During that time they served for multiple
years in Eastern Europe equipping leaders, planting churches, and supplying resources
for the church. When health issues brought them home, they continued to serve the
Eastern European church from stateside and to lead the ministry of EMI. Today they
continue to help lead EMI and to mentor and direct ministries in several Eastern
European contries.
Dr. Alex Maianu began this ministry as an “underground” work in Communist Romania
in 1967. Dr. Maianu later came to America and established EMI in 1983 as an outreach
to the Soviet bloc countries in Europe.
Following the changes in the Soviet Union in 1991, EMI has also partnered with like-ministries
and expanded to provide theological training to church leaders and provide field
ministry assistance to national Christians in strategic locations. In addition to
Eastern Europe, EMI staff has been active in establishing, equipping, and encouraging
churches in the Czech Republic, Africa, India, North, Central and South America.
